REC launches new professional membership system

The Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) has launched its new Institute of Recruitment Professionals (IRP) to replace the current Individual Membership offering.
All Individual Members of the REC will automatically become members of the IRP whose core purpose is to ensure that all recruiters are given the opportunity to be individually recognised as part of the profession while demonstrating to clients their credentials in being committed to delivering the best possible service at all times.
REC Chief Executive Kevin Green said: "One of our main goals is to deliver a world-class service to members. The IRP takes this another step closer and towards professionalising the industry, giving recruiters operating at all levels unprecedented levels of support enabling them to be the best they can."
The REC said IRP membership had numerous benefits:
* Inclusion on the register of recruiters;
* Exclusive members-only content pages on the IRP website;
* Access to the most comprehensive on-line desktop information and learning resource from the Chartered Management Institute;
* Volunteer opportunities throughout the UK at IRP regional branches;
* Access to the online Legal Guide giving information on how to interpret and apply legislation;
* An opportunity to be recognised and/or recognise a peer at the prestigious IRP awards;
* Rigorous assistance towards Continued Professional Development;
* Use of designatory letters and IRP logo after member’s name;
* An IRP card which demonstrates professionalism to clients and candidates;
* An IRP certificate showing commitment to the profession and to the delivery of excellent recruitment services at all times.
All members will sign up the IRP’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct which will show both clients and candidates that they do practice the very highest standards of principled and professional recruitment.
At the same time, the REC’s 8000 corporate members comprising recruitment businesses and their branches will be asked to encourage their employees to join the IRP as part of their career development programme.
Green said: "Corporate members will reap the benefits as result of their staff joining the IRP. The result will be a knowledgeable and motivated team of professional recruiters who deliver the highest standards. This is because they do feel part of a community which gives them all the incentives and services they need to be one step ahead of the competition which in turn gives their company the business edge.

End of beginning as downturn slows slightly
The seasonally-adjusted CIPS/Markit Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rose to 42.9 in April from 39.1 the previous month, but was lower than last year’s figure of 49.7. Despite remaining below the neutral 50.0 mark (a figure less than 50 indicates a contraction) for the 13th month running, the PMI moved further from February’s joint survey record low.
