Recruiters voice new concerns over Agency Workers Regs
Monday 26th July 2010Recruiters continue to voice their concerns over Agency Workers Regulations.
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation's first AWR webinar attracted more than 250 members – the maximum allowed under the licence.
The REC said it provided a useful update on the main areas of concern for recruiters.
Participants heard Tom Hadley, the REC’s Director of External Relations and Lewina Farrell, Senior Solicitor and Commercial Advisor, provide an update on key areas within the regulations and latest feedback from Government and clients.
Questions flagged up during the live session focussed on some of the more controversial aspects of the regulations such as new models of supply (the so-called "Swedish derogation"), exclusions for self-employed workers model and new rights for pregnant workers.
The AWR Webinar forms part of the AWR Implementation Pack that was launched last month to provide practical guidance and support to members of the REC and IRP.
Hadley said: "We were delighted with the response from members and with the number of often very detailed questions that were raised during the session.
"This input will inform our discussions next month with the new Employment Relations Minister and will ensure that our regular legal briefings continue to address the specific concerns of agencies and clients."
The REC said that all questions raised during the course of the live webinar would be collated, analysed and included in the FAQ section of the AWR Implementation Pack website pages.

End of beginning as downturn slows slightly
The seasonally-adjusted CIPS/Markit Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rose to 42.9 in April from 39.1 the previous month, but was lower than last year’s figure of 49.7. Despite remaining below the neutral 50.0 mark (a figure less than 50 indicates a contraction) for the 13th month running, the PMI moved further from February’s joint survey record low.
